There are four platforms supported in this release, Mac, Intel,
Alpha, and SGI. Check the list of suggested
improvements, to see if someone is attempting a port to the
other platforms.
The shaders in this release require a minimum of
version 5.6 of Lightwave 3D.
(Sorry Inspire3D users, these shaders all require the
gradient.p plugin, and it is not included with Inspire3D. The official word from Newtek's Brad Peebler...
"gradient.p wasn't intended to be a part of Inspire and I don't want to change the spec now.").
The
only files in the archive is shades.p, and a shades_readme.txt
file which contains the URL of the main Shades
web page. All of the current
documentation, and other information about the project can
be found there.
To
install the Shades plugin, copy shades.p to your Plugins/Layout
directory. After adding the shades.p plugin from Layout, you should
see a message that says 72 plugins were added (36 shaders and
their 36 interfaces). You should find 36 new entries in the Surface
Panel's "Shader Plug-ins" menu:

Alpha
Shades2 for LW5.6: Coming soon...
WARNING to Alpha owners: Do not save a Lightwave object that has been assigned one of these shaders,
if that shader has any of the envelopes activated. It looks as if the Alpha version of the envaccess.p global plugin has a bug in it's "Load Envelope" routine. So if you save an object with shader envelopes activated, that object WILL NOT load correctly back into Layout. The saved envelopes may cause Lightwave to crash, and leave you unable to load the object again.
